Baker Mortgage Company was started in 1955 by Gordon R. Baker. The oldest of three sons and the grandson of builder G. A. Fraser, Gordon learned the business of purchasing owner financed notes from observing his grandfather selling homes, and carrying notes on them. After a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy, and putting himself through school at the University of Houston, it was rather obvious that Gordon was not going to be happy with the average desk job, but eventually realized the family business seemed a natural fit, and it was. Between his grandfather, and his mother, Annette Fraser Baker, they instilled in him a strong work ethic as well as a sense of decency and honor that he is remembered for today.
In the late 1970's, Cathy Baker, Gordon's daughter, came to work with him on what was supposed to be a temporary basis.
Cathy was fortunate to work with her father for almost eighteen years.
She became president in January, 1996.
There is currently now a third generation employed at the company.
It's a fine legacy that we are extremely proud of. The clients are that way, too. We do business on a regular basis with not only children, but in some cases grandchildren of people that got their first home loan from Baker Mortgage Company. We're very proud of that.
The company has always kept a family type atmosphere and you notice the difference when you call, or when you walk in the door. We still have real people that answer the phone. Voice mail is available only after normal business hours.
Baker Mortgage provides financing for people wanting to purchase or refinance their homes. In addition, we originate small commercial loans on a case by case basis. We are also very well known in the market for buying notes, otherwise known as seller financed mortgages. That's the reason our telephone number is 713-661-NOTE. We also purchase homes from time to time for investment purposes.
